HOPES ARE BEING RAISED that the World No.1 Darts player will visit Moray for an exhibition match – with local fans launching a crowdfunding bid to make their dreams come true.
The fundraising effort has a target of £6000 to bring ‘Mighty’ Michael Van Gerwen to Moray – the world No.1 who will be bidding for a third World Championship crown next year.
However, his status in the sport also makes him the most difficult player to attract for exhibition games – and that makes it a tough call for Stuart Smylie, who is behind the bid, to risk funding such an event on his own.
Stuart said: “Crowdfunding will take away the risk and pressure of required sponsorship and ticket sales just to cover the costs of the event!
“MVG is the most exciting darts player in the world – his talent, his showmanship, determination and bravado has made him famous all around the globe. Achieving the fee will allow ticket sales and corporate sponsors revenue to be allocated directly to a local Moray charity – so if successful it means that all proceeds from the event will be given to local charities.”
Stuart said that a glittering darts exhibition could possibly include local darts professional Craig Quinn and ‘The Highlander’ John Henderson.
Stuart added: “From previous endeavours I know local companies as sponsors will come on board with this and be proud to be associated with such a high profile fundraising event.
“All donations and contributors will be listed in an event programme to thank those that make this event possible.”
