POLICE ARE HOPING for help from the public who may have information on the setting alight of a shed and garage in Elgin on Friday.

Emergency services were called to the fire in the Glassgreen Grae area shortly before 2am – no one was harmed, however, the shed was completely destroyed.

Meanwhile, a second incident involving a garage at Duff Place was reported to police between 1.50am and 2.05am. Again no one was harmed however a small value of damage was caused to the building.

Both incidents are being treated as suspicious and officers are appealing for information as enquiries continue.

Local Sergeant Robert Williams said: “At this stage we are keeping an open mind as to whether these incidents are linked, however given that crime of this nature is extremely rare in the area we cannot rule out that they are.

“We are also investigating an incident whereby we believe a broken-down white Ford Transit Pick-up – reg. no SH57 APU – was set alight on the B9012 Duffus to Elgin Road close to Spynie Hospital between 3pm on Thursday afternoon (December 14) and 9am on Friday morning (December 15).

“At this stage there is nothing to link this incident to the others, however given it may have happened at a similar time I would urge anyone with information to contact us.

“Wilful fire-raising is completely irresponsible and dangerous – you don’t know how an incident will develop and you are risking people’s lives. It won’t be tolerated.
