COMPANIES WHO INVEST in apprenticeships are set to be the toast of Moray during Scottish Apprentice Week which begins on March 5.

To celebrate the success of Moray Apprentices and their employers a business breakfast, open evening and a number of online events will be held.

These will allow employers, young people and their parents to gain an understanding of work-based learning opportunities available in Moray. The business breakfast is open to all employers who employ apprentices or are considering employing apprentices and will be held on Tuesday, March 6 at the Alexander Graham Bell Centre at Moray College UHI.

Breakfast starts at 7.30am and over two hours delegates will find out how to access support and information on the apprenticeship family which includes Foundation; Modern; and Graduate Apprenticeships.

Following the presentations there will be a Q&A session where apprentices from all programmes will be happy to share their experiences with employers. There will also be an opportunity to network with representatives from Skills Development Scotland, Developing the Young Workforce Moray and Moray College UHI.

Places are free but attendees must register online via this link.

Young people considering an apprenticeship and parents of young people considering an apprenticeship can find out more about apprenticeships and current vacancies at an open evening from 4pm to 7pm at Skills Development Scotland, 232 High Street Elgin on Wednesday, March 7.

Moray College UHI is also holding its annual open evening on March 7, where young people and parents can find out about the choice of courses offered by the college and meet the lecturers.

The evening will also include information about the Foundation apprenticeship programme available at the College. The open evening will run from 5pm until 6.30pm and will be held in the Alexander Graham Bell Centre.

Each day of Scottish Apprenticeship Week a series of posts, videos and information will be streamed on Facebook  page and other social media, focusing on particular career subjects to give young people access to as much information as possible to allow them to make an informed decision about their future employment.  These social media posts will be specific to Moray and to learning in Moray.

Nina Crocombe Team Leader (Elgin) of Skills Development Scotland said: “The recent growth of apprenticeship programmes in Scotland is providing young people with great opportunities to consider work-based learning opportunities to support their career path.

“Our event is aimed at young people and parents to fully understand their options, and discover what opportunities there are in Moray, whether you are considering it now as an option, or considering it for the future”

Sarah Baxter, manager of DYW Moray added: “DYW Moray is excited to be facilitating this event with our partners.  We hope that by celebrating Moray’s apprenticeship success stories to date, will inspire more employers to employ an apprentice and reap the benefits of this.”

Jacqui Taylor, Head of Marketing and External Relations at Moray College UHI, said “Scottish Apprenticeship Week provides an opportunity for all partners to celebrate the success of our apprentices and recognise the commitment employers have invested in Moray’s young people.  We are delighted once again, to be hosting the Business Breakfast where we look forward to hearing from our young people.”
