Unpaid carers will have more opportunities for regular time away from their role to meet other carers in their local area, thanks to Quarriers Carer Support Service (Moray).

New Carer Cafés will allow unpaid carers across Moray to take a break for a couple of hours, make new connections and build up support networks. As one carer put it: “I really look forward to attending the carers café.  It’s my chance to get a break and do something for me for a change.”

Cafés will be available in Keith, Elgin, Buckie, Forres and Aberlour.  Carers can come along to any, or all cafés, and the Carers Service can help carers attend, if necessary.

The plans includes cafés in:

Keith Community Hub, 11am – 1pm, first Monday of each month starting 3 September

Elgin Community Centre, 11am – 1pm, first Friday of each month starting 7 September

Buckie Riverside Church, 11am – 1pm, second Friday of each month starting 14 September

Forres Mackenzie + Cruickshank, 2-4pm, third Wednesday of each month starting 19 September

Aberlour Station Tearoom, 11am – 1pm, fourth Thursday of each month starting 27 September

Sandi Downing – Project Manager said, “57% of carers expect their mental health to get worse in the next two years.  The caring role can be so all-encompassing that carers often forget to focus on their own health and wellbeing.  Combining fun, information and the chance to meet others, these informal cafés will provide an opportunity for unpaid carers to get some much needed time out to relax.”

Carers needing help to attend should call the Service on 01343 556031, or email carersmoray@quarriers.org.uk
