Dogs have their day at Speyside bar with Yappy Day fundraiser

The Craigellachie Hotel and Copper Dog Pub are opening their doors on Saturday 18 September for an afternoon of cocktails, treats and competitions, and that’s just for the dogs!

Yappy Day celebrates man’s best friend and aims to raise money for Wild at Heart Foundation, a charity on a mission to end the suffering of stray dogs all over the world.

According to a study by Naturo Natural Pet Food, 88% of pet-owners feel a sense of parental guilt towards their four-legged friends, with 69% of those saying the main cause was leaving them home alone. With their dog-friendly rooms, bar, new outdoor terrace and links to some of the most scenic dog-walks in Speyside, the team at the world-renowned hotel are encouraging dog-owners to bring their best friends along.

Dogs strut their stuff

Beginning at midday, dogs are invited to strut their stuff down the dogwalk in a series of competitions for best dressed dog, best dressed owner and more, for the chance to win personalised bottles of Copper Dog Whisky. But don’t worry if your pup doesn’t have a costume, props will be on hand for last-minute entries. Or for capturing the moment and striking a pose in the photo booth!

Will Halsall, General Manager of the Craigellachie said: “For a donation of £5 per table, it’s going to be a great day out for the whole family with live entertainment, face painting and tasty food and drink served straight from our new BBQ area, the Spey Cafe. We’ll be firing up that BBQ for Copper Dog

Dogs and tasty burgers straight from S.A Mackie Butchers and serving local beers and whiskies. And don’t worry, there will be plenty of food and drink for your pup too!

“We’ll also be offering personalised bottles of Copper Dog Whisky, allowing you to add an illustrated silhouette of over 30 types of dog to your bottle, designed by Hugo Guinness.

Wild at Heart

“All proceeds from ticket sales and £5 from each sale of a bespoke bottle of Copper Dog will go straight to the Wild at Heart Foundation. We’ll also have donation buckets and tap to donate machines for anyone looking to donate more.”

Nikki Tibbles, founder of The Wild at Heart Foundation, added: “There has never been a more important time to help the world’s stray dog population. The Covid 19 pandemic has affected street dogs overseas to access the care and help they desperately need. These dogs rely on restaurants for scraps, volunteers for help and the good will of people to take them to the vets when they are injured. Sadly this hasn’t been so easy over the past 18 months.

“I’d like to say a huge thank you to The Craigellachie Hotel and Copper Dog for organising such a lovely event where we can hopefully raise essential funds to help support our rescue, sterilisation and rehoming projects globally.”

The event will take place from 12pm until 4pm on Saturday 18 September. To book, email reservations@craigellachiehotel.co.uk or call 01340 881 204.
