The death of a Bishopmill woman was not suspicious, a Police Scotland spokesman has said.
There was intense social media speculation earlier this week after Lindsey Richards, 43, was found dead at her home on Fulmar Road in Elgin on Friday.
Police set a cordon around the home over the weekend and said they were treating the death as ‘unexplained’. However, following a post-mortem examination on Monday a spokesman has said that the death is not being treated as suspicious, adding: “A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal in due course.”
Local councillor Barry Jarvis warned earlier this week against people making assumptions through social media sites until the facts of the death had become known.
Following the police announcement he said he now hoped that such rumours had been dispelled: “It just shows the dangers of speculating on social media without any foundation or firm facts.
“This is good for the family as it means they can start the grieving process properly. Everyone’s thoughts are now with the family.”
