Police in Moray are warning members of the public to be cautious when using cash machines after a card skimming device was found at an ATM at the Tesco store on Elgin’s Blackfriars Road.
The device was recovered by police after being found at 3.30pm on Friday, January 3.
A police appeal said: “We would like to speak to anyone who may have information about the incident or who saw two males acting suspiciously at the ATM at around 7.30am on Friday.”
While inquiries into the incident are ongoing police are advising anyone who may have used the machine on Friday to check their bank statements for irregularities.
There has been increasing incidents of card skimming machines appearing in Moray, with the same site having been targeted in February last year.
At that time police issued a warning to anyone using such machines throughout the region that while they should carry on as normal, extra attention should be paid and people should be mindful of skimming devices and report anything suspicious.
Police are asking that information on the latest incident or reports of similar incidents should be reported to them by calling 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
