New Moray based rally team aiming to spook out the opposition

Moray aircraft enthusiasts may eventually gain three squadrons of Typhoon jets – but motor sports enthusiasts may not be aware that a rally team was part of the deal.

The Spookworks RAF Rally team have been competing for some years at national and international events and were crowned as RAF champions in 2010, 2011 and 2012.

Now with the rapid changes of personnel to their new home in Moray Spookworks are operating out of Lossiemouth.

Owner and driver of the team’s distinctive Subaru is Craig Teasdale, who was posted to the Moray base in January.  Craig and his team have already given the car a run out from their new home by competing at Cadwell Park in the Alan Healy memorial stages.

That was perhaps a bit frustrating with the team ending the event 48 points off the championship pace – prompting Craig to declare “must do better”.

The first opportunity to do just that will come on July 5 and 6 when Spookworks will turn out at the inaugural Mach 1 Stages event on the former RAF airfield at Machrihanish in Kintyre.

Ahead of the event Craig said: “This is the first time for everyone so no one has an advantage of knowing the stages.

“We are hoping this will level out the competition and reduce the immediate impact of superior performance. The event organisers are doing a great job and it looks like a cracking event.

“As its being held on an airbase we are hoping the air mindedness of our team will help us get a good result.”
