Red Hot Pipers set for Moray’s annual village festival success

A summer of spectacular festivities in Moray is set to continue this weekend when the 19th Speyfest folk festival gets under way in Fochabers.

Three days of song and dance will take place with an international cast of entertainment led by the Red Hot Chilli Pipers, fresh from their highly acclaimed performance on BBC this week ahead of the Commonwealth Games.

Tickets sales are reported to have been excellent for a ‘Friday late’ concert being held on Friday evening where the entertainment will also be at the Tented Village provided by Skippinish and the Stormchasers.

Earlier in the same evening a cabaret-style show will feature Jim Malcolm, the Craig Paton Band, Karine Polwart and Fred Morrison.

A packed weekend will see a major craft fair while there are to be free traditional music workshops at the Baxters Highland Village on Saturday from noon, while that evening Canadian folk band Mauvais Sort will head the bill.

A new feature for 2014 will provide up and coming musicians with a chance to perform at Speyfest with an ‘open mike’ stage set up on Saturday and Sunday afternoon.
