Call for information after ‘cowardly’ attack on Buckie woman

Police Scotland have described an attack on an elderly Buckie woman as “cowardly” and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

The woman who is in her sixties was attacked in the Brodie Avenue area of the town at around 11pm on Wednesday evening.

A black handbag and its contents were taken from her with a total value, police say, in the low hundreds of pounds.

Police are interested in a suspect who is described as being around 5feet 6inches tall and of medium build. He is thought to be in his early twenties.

The man was wearing a dark coloured sweatshirt with a hood pulled tightly over his head and concealing most of his face.

Investigating officer is Kevin Petrie, who said: “An elderly woman was the victim of a cowardly act in that the male stole her handbag while she was walking home from work.

“Fortunately she was not injured – however, the incident has left her shaken.”

Anyone who has information is being asked to contact police on 101 or via the Crimestoppers line on 0800 555111.
