Piping Hot Forres in line for major tourism award

Forres’ hosting of the spectacular European Pipe Band Championships is set to be recognised for its contribution to tourism in the Highlands and Islands.

‘Piping Hot Forres’ has over the last two years brought thousands of visitors to Moray with the people of Forres embracing the championships and turning them into one of the most successful events ever held in the region.

Now the event has been shortlisted for an award as the Best Event or Festival in the Highlands and Islands Tourism Awards.

On learning of the nomination on of the event’s main organisers, David Urquhart, said: “We are delighted that Piping Hot Forres in only its second year has been shortlisted for this award.

“The event was brought to Moray by members of the Forres business community, to help promote the area to the wider world to give an economic benefit for the betterment of the community.

“As such it has been widely embraced by the community leading to a very successful event – providing not just a welcome boost to the local economy but also a great day out for the whole family.

“Our fingers will be crossed for the night.”

Piping Hot Forres organisers Forres Events will face stiff competition at the awards with the Celtman Triathlon from Wester Ross, the Isle of Lewis’ Hebridean Celtic Festival and Cruise Loch Ness also shortlisted.

Another notable awards nomination has gone to the Strathisla Distillery in Keith, which has been shortlisted for the Best Visitor Attraction award.

The award winners will be announced at a ceremony and gala dinner at the Kingsmill Hotel in Inverness on Friday, November 7.
