Royal visits to Lossiemouth and Kinloss bases

Royal visit to Lossiemouth and Kinloss this month

Moray’s military bases are to receive a visit by Her Majesty The Queen in the company of His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh later this month.

Arriving at RAF Lossiemouth on Thursday, November 20, Her Majesty will review a Royal Salute and short parade, while to mark the assumption of Quick Reaction Alert (QRA) (Interceptor) North duties at the Moray base a plaque will be unveiled at the new purpose-built QRA facility.

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh will also meet members of Airplay, a support programme for young people whose family are in the Royal Air Force funded by the RAF Benevolent Fund, and their families.

A flypast conducted by a Tornado from XV(R) Squadron and two Typhoons from No.1 (Fighter) Squadron and No.6 Squadron flying in a northerly direction, will mark the Royal party’s departure from RAF Lossiemouth around mid-day.

Following the visit to RAF Lossiemouth the Royal party will move on to Kinloss Barracks, where they are expected to include a visit to the Moravia Nimrod named in honour of the Duke of Edinburgh.
