A Moray man admitted to having been in possession of over 400,000 child pornography images collected over a period of 14 years.
41-year-old Allyne Langley was caught with 421,039 images along with 335 videos when police raided his home in Aberlour.
Elgin Sheriff Court was told on Thursday that analysis of the material revealed it to be the largest haul ever recovered in a single case. Procurator fiscal Alison Wylie said that police had acted on intelligence that Langley’s internet IP address was involved in the downloading of illegal material.
As a result police seized two computers along with seven pen drives and a number of discs loaded with obscene files.
The fiscal told the court that the majority of the images were in the “level one” category, which is the lowest end of the scale, but 209 were judged as level four while 26 were level five.
Ms Wylie added that computer experts had noted that Langley had amassed an “extremely large” collection of images.
Warning Langley that a prison sentence was “almost inevitable”, Sheriff Susan Raeburn ordered psychiatric assessments to be carried out, remanded Langley in custody and ordered that he be placed on the sex offenders register.
