Scotch whisky ‘going Dutch’ in special festival film showing

Dutch Filmmaker Gwen Jensen

The relationship between The Netherlands and Scotch Whisky has been portrayed in a film to be shown during the forthcoming Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival.

‘The Netherlands, Country of Whisky’ will be shown in the Speyside Visitor Centre at Aberlour between Thursday, April 30 and Monday, May 4.

Filmmaker and whisky lover Gwen Jansen is behind the production and will be present at the showings to answer any questions. A festival spokesman said: “The film is a feast of recognition for any whisky lover who loves Scotch single malt whisky.

“The documentary is all about the passion for this distillate and sows how single malt whisky is made in Scotland and what the latest whisky trends are. The viewer also gets to see the far-reaching ways in which Dutch people share their passion and love for the drink.”

The film is showing in Speyside after a successful premier at the 2014 International Film Festival in Vlissingen.  Filmmaker Gwen Jansen said: “Of course Scotland is the Valhalla for whisky lovers and it is the birthplace of Scottish single malt whisky for which, as you can see in the film, the Dutch will go to such incredible lengths for their passion.

“I regard it as a great honour that the Scots themselves want to show it now at this well known and great Whisky Festival.”

A DVD of the production along with an additional 90 minutes of footage will also go on sale at the Whisky Shop in Dufftown or can be ordered online.

Admission to view the film in Aberlour will be by donation to help cover the costs of the Speyside Visitor Centre, which is operated by a team of local volunteers.
