A WELL KNOWN face at RAF Lossiemouth’s XV(R) Squadron has made a recent comeback with the return of Wing Commander Paul Froome to the Moray base.

Paul takes over as Commanding Officer of XV(Reserve) Squadron, replacing Wing Commander Jon Nixon after two years in charge of the Tornado Operational Conversion Unit.

On his departure Wing Commander Nixon praised the “professionalism and teamwork” of the squadron, saying: “I look back on what the Squadron has achieved over the past two years with immense pride.

“The highlights have been many, but specifically if I were to pick out three then they would be the timely graduation of well-trained aircrew to meet the Tornado Force operational commitments, commanding the Squadron through our 100th anniversary celebrations, and the Squadron leading a mixed Tornado and Typhoon flypast for Her Majesty the Queen when she visited RAF Lossiemouth last year, symbolic of the synergy of Tornado and Typhoon operating together.

“It has been an utter pleasure to lead what I consider to be the finest personnel, on the finest squadron in the finest Air Force. ‘Team XV’ is a working example of everything that is great about the Whole Force and I wish the officers, airmen, airwomen and civilians the very best of luck for the future. Aim Sure.”

Wing Commander Froome joins XV(Reserve) Squadron from a position in the Capability Strategy directorate of the Ministry of Defence.

He has completed several operational detachments during his RAF career including roles as a Qualified Weapons Instructor and Flight Commander with the Lossiemouth squadron.

On taking charge of the Tornado OCU, he said: “It is an honour and a privilege to take command of XV(R) Squadron in its Centenary year.

“I would like to thank Wg Cdr Nixon for the work he has done on XV(R) Squadron and the wider Tornado GR Force, and for handing me the Squadron in fine shape.

“I am looking forward to leading and working with ‘Team XV’, RAF Lossiemouth and the Tornado GR Force and continuing to deliver well trained aircrew to the front line Tornado squadrons.”
