A MORAY MAN has appeared at Elgin Sheriff Court in connection with a police operation last week that saw £68,000 worth of cannabis being seized.

34-year-old James Gillies was arrested after being stopped while travelling on the A95 at Marypark last week.

Gillies made no plea or declaration when he appeared in court on Friday accused of possessing and supplying illegal drugs. He was also charged with failing to stop his vehicle when requested.

Police acted on intelligence when they seized the cannabis while it was being moved between Aberlour and Craigellachie. CID, roads policing and violence reduction unit officers were all involved in the operation.

Gillies was released on bail after appearing in the dock on his own – he had made an earlier appearance with another Moray man, 23-year-old Connor McGregor.
