Moray Classic event looking for more classic participants

A MORAY CHARITY is aiming to host a third running of a classic car event that raised thousands to aid the fight against cancer in Moray and the North East last year.

CLAN Cancer Support were delighted when the brainchild of Elgin volunteer Ron Billings attracted 27 classic cars on a run through Moray and Aberdeenshire.

Sadly, Ron has since lost his personal fight against cancer – now the 2016 event is being dedicated to his memory, with hopes that it can top last years £7000.

Tracy Sellar, who is the Moray area coordinator for CLAN, said: “We all had a fantastic day last year when the procession travelled from Decora in Elgin to Balmoral Castle via Tomintoul, then onwards to CLAN’s HQ in Aberdeen.

“This event was very much Ron’s baby – we are all still missing him so much but are determined to take this forward in his memory – and perhaps make the 2016 event bigger and better than ever before. For that we need car owners to join the procession.”

Classic car owners are being urged to enter with a minimum sponsorship pledge for each vehicle entered set at £25.

Tracy continued: “Money raised from the event will provide a massive boost in supporting people affected by cancer across Moray and the North East. It was fantastic last year to see wonderful cars of all shapes and sizes taking part – we hope that this year we can see many, many more.”

The CLAN Cavalcade will leave from Elgin on Friday, July 29 at 8.45am – heading to Balmoral in time for lunch before finishing up back in Elgin.

Owners wishing to enter the event are being asked to contact Tracy by email to tracy.sellar@clanhouse.org.
