FORRES IN BLOOM has recorded another national success by winning Gold in the Beautiful Scotland Awards.

The Moray town recently received the award for a medium sized town at a ceremony in Aberdeen – and prompted a motion praising their success at the Scottish Parliament.

Douglas Ross MSP called the latest award for the town “a fantastic achievement” and called on other members of the Holyrood Parliament to support his motion.

Mr Ross said: “This is yet another fantastic achievement for the volunteers and supporters of Forres in Bloom.

“The hard work and commitment of all those involved really does make Forres a floral gem for both locals and visitors to the area.

“Coming in their 26th year this award continues the success the town has achieved in many previous competitions – and is made even more special when you consider the challenges the group have had to face in recent years when the Moray Council closed the nursery in Elgin and stopped providing plants to local communities.

“With Forres in Bloom having the use of a former nursery site in the town they have undertaken fantastic work in the last few years – fundraising, seeking support and recruiting volunteers to restore the site to a working nursery and to help maintain the displays throughout the year.

“The award is a great recognition to the work done over many years and clearly demonstrates the community spirit and the pride which locals take in their home town. I was delighted to lodge a parliamentary motion to allow MSPs from across Scotland to recognise this achievement.”
