SUMMER IS OFFICIALLY over with the first weather alert of the Autumn/Winter issued by the Met Office for later this week.

Moray is being warned to expect gales or severe gales from early on Thursday morning, with gusts expected to reach around 70mph in places.

“Potential impacts could include minor travel disruption with some bridge restrictions – and possible damage to trees and structures,” the Met Office warns, adding: “Additionally, large waves will build off northern and western coasts with the risk of some wave overtopping here.”

The warning has been sparked by a predicted low pressure set to pass over the north of Scotland from tomorrow onwards.

Any areas exposed to the northwest are expected to receive the strongest winds during the alert which currently covers Moray, Aberdeenshire and Aberdeen City.
