THE PHENOMENAL GROWTH of a historic Moray castle in producing quality produce has been recognised with a clutch of honours at the Highlands and Islands Food and Drink Awards.
Gordon Castle scooped the Excellence Award at the presentation in the Kingsmill Hotel in Inverness – but it did not stop there, as they also came away with the Innovation Awards and a highly commended in the Best Eatery category for their Walled Garden Cafe.
In addition the family business was a finalist in the Best Drink Award for its Gordon Castle Gin, Cider and Liqueur.
Following the awards Angus Gordon Lennox, owner of Gordon Castle Estate, commented: “We are delighted with our trophies and nominations. Thank you to everyone who has supported us on our journey so far and a particular ‘well done’ to all of the hard working people across the estate who have made this possible.
“It only seems like yesterday that we launched our product range and began our renovation project to transform the overgrown field into the café, kitchen garden, shop and visitor attraction it is today.
“It’s so important to safeguard the future of traditional Scottish estates and for us, using the Walled Garden as inspiration for the Gordon Castle Scotland brand seemed a natural progression. Here’s to the future as we strive for world-wide recognition for the products, brand and estate.”
The awards, for innovation and excellence, are recognition of the continual efforts to expand a new Scottish brand into the rest of the UK and abroad whilst transforming the estate into a multi-faceted attraction for the community and visitors alike, safeguarding it for future generations.
