MORAY HAS REJOINED a nationwide craze that has fast become one of the best-known secrets in the baking world – the Clandestine Cake Club.
From their birth in Leeds six years ago, the clubs have met in secret locations for hush-talks on all things baking – and for a while Elgin provided one of the meeting places.
However, that closed down – but not to be deterred two Forres ladies and a whispering campaign has resulted in the re-establishment of a club in Moray – and this time they are letting nothing stand in their way!
The original CCC idea was established in 2010 by Lynn Hill who said: “I wanted to create the opportunity for people to get together over tea and cake, so I founded The Secret Tea Room in my own home at the same time as the Clandestine Cake Club in 2010.
“I baked Afternoon Tea, inviting strangers into my home to enjoy conversation with like-minded people. Both were successful but I’ve focused on expanding the CCC and I’ve since published two CCC recipe books. There are lots of opportunities to make new friends and everybody can have a go at the baking.”
Refusing to let the idea die out completely in Moray, Andrea Chappell was one of the Forres ladies who decided it was time to grab the flour and begin arrangement secret meetings again.
She said: “A new Moray division of the Clandestine Cake Club has been founded and we are determined to get Moray baking again.
“Two events have now taken place in Forres – with a third planned for early December. Judging by the turnout at our 60s themed night recently, our local amateur bakers are relishing the challenge .
“The club is open to all ages and abilities of bakers – there is no judging, we bake for friendship and for fun and the best bit is it’s free!”
Anyone wishing to join the CCC in Moray can do so by signing up online.
