A WOMAN HAS SUSTAINED serious but not life threatening injuries in an assault at a Moray coastal village on Wednesday.

Police were joined by an ambulance crew when they were called to a home on Portknockie’s Victoria Street at around 3.20pm.

Part of the street was immediately sealed off by officers who later revealed that in a “contained and isolated” incident a 45-year-old woman was treated before being taken to Dr Gray’s Hospital in Elgin.

A 41-year-old man, believed to have been her partner, was detained in relation to the assault.

Confirming that the injuries sustained by the woman were serious but not life threatening, a Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “This was a contained and isolated incident and there was no risk to the local community at any point during this incident.

“Inquiries are at an early stage and there will be a notable police presence in the area for the time being. The local community are thanked for their patience during this time.”
