Elgin City launch plans for a Community Trust

Lesser Borough Briggs – plans to create a Community Trust.

A NEW COMMUNITY TRUST is to be established that is being aimed at creating a new community youth coaching centre alongside Elgin City FC’s stadium.

Community coaching has been conducted at Lesser Borough Briggs for several years – now the club are seeking to join with the community in forming a new Trust that will ultimately seek to assume long-term control of the Common Good land.

Following long running discussion with officials at Moray Council, it is now believed that the best way forward would be for the formation of a Community Trust drawing on expertise from within the club and the local community.

An opening public meeting to discuss the plans has been called for March 7 at 7pm in the upstairs large hall at Borough Briggs at which interested members of the public are invited.

Elgin City’s chairman Graham Tatters explained: “The popularity of our community coaching sessions at Lesser Borough Briggs has grown substantially – we believe they have become an essential part of the local community and there is a desire to see them continue under a more permanent arrangement.

“Above all we are in a position just now where the local council has eyes on the Common Good land for possible future development, leaving our work within the local community with a very uncertain future.

“Our initial plan is that the Community Trust be formed with a view to securing the land for their exclusive use – to that end, we wish to find out what people think of the idea and if they would be supportive of this initiative.

“We hope to see as many people as possible attending the meeting on March 7 which, with a fair wind, will be the start of a new joint venture for the benefit of everyone in our community.”
