A MORAY PUB and entertainment venue has been shortlisted for the coveted ‘Best Bar’ award in a national bid to find the best licensed premises in Scotland.
The Drouthy Cobbler in Elgin has been named as a contender in the Best Bar None Scotland National Awards for 2016/17 with the awards being presented at the Hilton Hotel in Glasgow on March 30.
Recognising each venue’s contribution to encourage customer and staff safety while supporting a good night out, the prestigious awards acknowledge the best work and innovative practices on offer among the 400 plus Best Bar None accredited venues in Scotland.
Paul Johnson Lead for Best Bar None in Moray, said: “The Moray Alcohol and Drugs Partnership welcomed the opportunity of supporting the Best Bar None Award Scheme.
“We are looking to promote a safer environment, reducing alcohol related harm and crime, whilst helping business to provide high quality and welcoming establishments for customers. The Best Bar None Scheme does all of these.”
National lead for Best Bar None Scotland is Arlene Campbell, who added: “The National Best Bar None Awards continue to grow year on year and it’s great to see so many venues from different corners of Scotland being represented.
“Across the country Best Bar None accredited venues are continuously raising standards and as always judging will be difficult given the high calibre of finalists on show.

The focus of the Best Bar None scheme is on public safety and customer care, together with the following key principles: prevention of crime and disorder, securing public safety, prevention of public nuisance, protecting and improving public health and the protection of children from harm.
Accreditation to the scheme shows the venue and its staff have met a level of standards that assures members of the public they will be able to enjoy a safe and welcoming atmosphere. The National Awards recognise best practice, leading to an enhanced experience for customers.
