THE MORAY PUBLIC are being presented with a rare opportunity to meet with the award-winning author Benji Davies when he helps celebrate the new season at the Scottish Dolphin Centre at Spey Bay.
Benji’s visit is a very apt one as he will put on display the artwork from his popular book ‘The Storm Whale’ at the centre on April 11.
Mr Davies has achieved a high reputation as an illustrator, author and animation director – The Storm Whale is his first self-penned picture book and winner of the Oscar’s First Book Prize in 2014.
Since then he has produced ‘Grandad’s Island’, winner of the children’s book category at the 2015 World Illustrated Awards.
Looking forward to his Moray visit, Benji said: “I am delighted to be invited up to the Scottish Dolphin Centre to see the dolphins, meet the team that conserves their environment and the families that support the centre.
“It is going to be a brilliant couple of days and I’m looking forward to meeting all the children attending the readings and crafting sessions we have planned to celebrate the Centre’s activity in conjunction with the Storm Whale titles.”
Benji will be leading two storytelling and craft sessions at the Scottish Dolphin Centre at 10am and 11.15am with all proceeds from these events will go towards Whale and Dolphin Conservation’s work at the Scottish Dolphin Centre.
Aimed at three to six year olds, tickets are on sale for £5 per child and include a drink and snack, and £1 off the Storm Whale book, which will be on sale in the WDC shop on the day. Tickets can be purchased at the Dolphin Centre or by calling 01343 820339. Numbers are limited so please book early!
The exhibition of Benji’s artwork will focus on his latest book ‘The Storm Whale in Winter’ and will run from April 1 to April 14 in the Centre’s exhibition area. Visitors can enjoy the exhibition each day from 10.30am to 5pm – entry is free.
