Popular Co-Operative Supermaket closure is only temporary

A POPULAR MORAY supermarket has closed its doors – but has assured customers it is only a temporary health and safety measure.

The Co-Operative shop on Queen Street in Lossiemouth closed last night and will not reopen again until 7am on Monday, April 3.

During the closure work will be undertaken on the ceiling of the store, protecting it from any fire that may start in the flat above – or providing some protection for the flat should a blaze start in the store.

A spokeswoman said: “The store has to close completely to allow the work to progress so we have to apologise to our customers and hope that they understand the need for this. Our nearest store on Coulardbank Road will, of course, remain open throughout.”

Fire board protection is often recommended by Fire and Rescue Service safety inspectors. They boards do not burn and so will not contribute to any fire outbreak, allowing more time for emergency services to bring a fire under control.

The board is often put in place behind existing party walls or ceilings.
