Reminder of major road closure in Elgin for rail works

THOSE HEADING INTO Elgin today for one of the busiest days of the year are being reminded that in one part of town traffic could be even busier than usual.

From 8am until 8pm today (Saturday) and tomorrow the level crossing at the Wards in the town will be closed – with diversions operating for all traffic.

Vehicles will still be able to access business premises in the area via Edgar Road – but not through Wards Road.

The closure is to permit work to be carried out on new railway signalling, part of the improvements being made by Network Rail at Forres and Elgin stations.

A spokesman said: β€œThe closure of the level crossing will enable Network Rail and their contractor BAM Nuttall to install services in connection with new signalling.

“Due to the noisy nature of the works, nightshift working was discounted to reduce disturbance to nearby residents.”
