Resource centre event to launch week for Mental Health Awareness

THE MORAY RESOURCE CENTRE is to host an information day on Monday, May 8 as part of Mental Health Awareness Week.

Providing an opportunity to spark a national debate on the importance of good mental health, the week is being held this year from May 8 to May 14 and is promoted by the Mental Health Foundation.

“The success of the week is largely down to the involvement of our supporters, followers and the public who really grab the theme and run with it each year,” Mark Rowland, the Foundation’s director of fundraising and communications said.

He added: “In recent years mental health has risen up the public policy agenda. Mental Health Awareness Week helps maintain momentum.

“We used the week to call for action from national governments, public bodies and employers to promote good relationships and to tackle the barriers to forming them.”

In Moray the week will be marked by a ‘Conversation on Mental Health’ at the Elgin Town Hall on Thursday, May 11 – but ahead of that will be the information day at the Moray Resource Centre in Elgin.

A spokesman for that event said: “There will be talks and information stands available on the day, while there will be sessions open to everyone – so we encourage those with an interest in finding out how to access services and support in Moray to come along.”
