A CHARITY ART exhibition and auction is being held to assist in providing ‘art therapy’ to young people in Moray.
Forres Rotary members are behind the event being held on May 28 at the Moray Art Centre in Findhorn, which is being supported by over 40 artists both local and from further afield.
Amongst the locals supporting the event are Norma Shewan, Jonathan Wheeler, Margaret Smith and Jenny Worgan.
Organiser Brian Higgs paid tribute to the artists for their enthusiasm towards the event – and is now hoping that the public will respond in similar fashion: “The kindness artists have shown in making these donations underlines their belief in the therapeutic power of art, as well as its creativity.
“Now we hope the public will support us by coming to the event and bidding on these amazing works of art.”
Art Therapy has been shown to be beneficial to young people in expressing their thoughts, feelings and experiences in a safe environment. Rotary Forres is working with The Green Tree Arts Studio and the Moray Council’s Forres based Engagement Team on a project to bring the power of art to some hugely deserving young people.
With the money raised it plans to have a weekly after-school art therapy sessions for a group of youngsters.
Event organisers have also launched a new website at which people can learn more and place early bids for the exhibits that will be on view. Tickets are now on sale for £10 from Moray Art Centre, McLaughlan Opticians, R&R Urquhart, and via the website.
