DESPITE THE FINANCIAL pressures facing the local authority, Moray Council say that they continue to be on course to complete the provision of 240 affordable homes the next three years.
Of these 31 will be completed in the current financial year, 99 in 2018 and 112 in 2019/20. Already over the last three years 180 such homes have been built and allocated in Moray.
A report is set to go before the communities committee next week that also highlights the completion last month of the 16-home development at Burdshaugh in Forres – that having followed a 15-home development at Elgin’s Linkwood Steading.
Next up will be 20 homes for which building will start at Ferrylea in Forres this month followed by a 12-home development at Strathcona Road in the same town in August.
Elgin will see a 21-home development at the ‘driving range’ in Elgin with an October start date scheduled.
Officials will tell Councillors: “As part of the More Homes Scotland initiative, the Scottish Government has committed to investing over £3billion to build 50,000 affordable houses over the next five years.
“To achieve this priority, the government is encouraging councils to prepare for a significant increase in their resource allocations beyond 2018.”
