Community link sees launch of Moray radio news service

TWO COMMUNITY MEDIA SERVICES have joined forces to bring the first regular dedicated news reports to Moray.

Wave Community Radio have teamed up with insideMORAY to produce a one-hour pilot news magazine ‘Wave Newsbeat with insideMORAY’.

The pilot show will be broadcast through Wave’s online 24/7 service at 6pm on Friday – listeners can tune in via a link on the front page of this website or through the Wave Radio website http://waveradio.org.uk/

Special guests on the pilot show includes Moray’s MP Douglas Ross, all four candidates for the forthcoming Elgin City North by-election and a special feature on Piping At Forres held last month at Grant Park.

Editor of insideMORAY, Stuart Crowther, said: “I have been probing at the edges of producing a radio version of insideMORAY for some time, so when I was approached by Wave it seemed a no-brainer for the two community services to cooperate in this way.

“Our pilot programme this week will be followed by the launch on August 4 at 6pm of a regular weekly news round-up magazine. In time we hope to recruit interested people, perhaps young people interested in learning about news broadcasting, evolving this initial service into a 15 or 30-minute daily news show.”

Chairman of Wave Radio, Stewart Kennedy, said: “We are delighted to team up with Stuart at insideMORAY for what we are certain will become a very popular feature on both services.

“When it comes to local news delivered on a daily basis there is not much that can match our local community news service. At Wave we have years of experience in hospital and community broadcasting but have never really had a proper news feature, so we are looking forward to working with insideMORAY.”
