Community council elections not required as 67% seats taken up

THERE WILL BE NO NEED for a formal election process for Moray’s new community councils – but 17 have achieved sufficient numbers to be established.

Sixteen of those have been re-established while a new community council is being formed, the Speyside Community Council.

However, two councils will be lost – Hopeman & Covesea and Glenlivet – also lost is the Findhorn & Kinloss Community Council as insufficient candidates came forward.

In total 208 seats were available for community councils – 139 were taken up, 67% of the total.

Inaugural meetings for the 17 established community councils will begin from Monday. A full list of those now representing their communities on these councils can be downloaded here.
