Cyber Security lock-up breakfast talk for Moray businesses

INTERNET SECURITY WILL be the topic at a business breakfast event being hosted by the Moray Chamber of Commerce next month.

The need for businesses large and small to protect themselves from the many methods in use to steal from the unwary will be placed in sharp focus on October 26 between 8am and 10am.

Tickets for the event are being offered on a ‘two-for-one’ basis so allowing guests to take a colleague along with them for the Eight Acres Hotel session organised in partnership with MJD Systems.

Mark Dunscombe from MJD Systems said: “Cyber security is always in the news these days but it all sounds too complicated.

“Cyber Essentials (CE) is a government-backed Security Standard that is aimed principally at Micro-businesses and SMEs and it’s to help organisations protect themselves against common Cyber Attacks.

“Put simply it’s a clear set of controls which, when properly implemented, will provide organisations with essential protection from the most prevalent forms of cyber threats coming from the internet.

“The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will take effect from May 25th 2018, are you ready? It’s just over 6 months away? GDPR changes how personal data can be used and it may be that your company will be affected by the new legislation.

“Under GDPR fines for data breaches will have an upper limit of 20million Euro’s or 4% of annual global turnover. GDPR and Cyber Essentials should be on every business’s radar, there are steps you should be taking to ensure you comply before the deadline date.

“MJD Systems are a local IT Managed Services company who are also specialists in Cyber Security and GDPR advice. In conjunction with Moray Chamber we are providing the two-hour drop-in event with a 30minute presentation on Cyber Security and GDPR.

“We will be speaking in a non-technical manner as much as possible to help you understand these changes.”

Those wishing to attend the event alongside a colleague should contact Georgia at the Chamber on gdunk@moraychamber.co.uk or call 01343 543344.

Tickets are £15+VAT for members or £20+VAT for non-members.  Full details are also available on the Moray Chamber of Commerce website.
