FURTHER DETAILS ARE EMERGING over plans for the first of two new primary schools being built to meet growing communities in Elgin.
Linkwood Primary will be built at a cost of around £11million and is part of wider plans to build 2500 new homes and the long awaited Moray Sports Centre.
Final proposals for the new school have now been submitted by Moray Council and confirm the new building will accommodate up to 460 pupils as well as providing a nursery for 40 children.
A report being made to councillors said that the proposal is founded on “the idea of simplicity and innovation”, adding: “The proposed design puts the child and their learning opportunities at the centre of the school through the clear, efficient and flexible solution to the brief.
“Our design represents a simple and adaptable form – yet innovative approach to the schools physical environment.”
Construction work on the school is anticipated to begin in March 2018, with the first pupils and staff expected to be in the school the following year. Many of the pupils attending will come from their current temporary accommodation at East End Primary School.
