AN UNEXPLAINED FIRE in Forres has prompted an appeal from local police for information.
At some point over the weekend between Saturday, January 13 and Monday, January 15, the fire broke out at Chapelton Farm Wetland and Wildlife Hide.
It resulted in the hide being completely destroyed – now police are keen to hear from anyone who might have information over how the blaze might have started.
Investigating officer is PC Sean Wood, who said: “The damage caused by fire to the wooden bird hide, has understandably, caused much sadness and disappointment to members of the community here in Forres.
“I would urge anyone who may have knowledge of the circumstances of when and how the fire came to be started, to come forward with any information.”
Speculation in the community suggests that the hide may have been used as a ‘drinking den’.
Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland on 101 quoting reference 0926 of 15 January or to remain anonymous call the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
