Celebrating Volunteers’ Week

With National Volunteers’ Week kicking off last Saturday, 1 June, tsiMORAY is giving people the opportunity to write messages describing what volunteering means to them and use social media to share their stories.

Volunteer Development Officer at tsiMORAY Sue Davies said: ” Volunteers are everywhere in Moray helping people, helping our community. Sometimes it’s behind the scenes and it isn’t always visible straight away … and sometimes people don’t see what they do as volunteering … and sometimes volunteers are a bit shy to come forward … but either way we are so very grateful to the amazing volunteers in Moray. We want to raise awareness of the strength of the volunteering community here but also flag up to others that there are many ways to get involved.

“Hopefully, by encouraging our community of volunteers to get involved and spread the word about why they volunteer, other people will get a taste of the breadth of opportunities out there and how worthwhile volunteering can be.”

All people have to do is download the message frame from the tsiMORAY website (www.tsimoray.org.uk/volunteering) and post a picture of themselves on their own social media channels with a message of why they volunteer, using the hashtags #VolunteersWeekScot and #MorayVolunteers.

“There are many inspirational quotes about volunteering”, Fabio Villani, from tsiMORAY’s Leadership Team, added. “My favourite one is: ‘Volunteering is the ultimate exercise in democracy. You vote in elections once a year, but when you volunteer, you vote every day about the kind of community you want to live in.’

“The reality is that volunteers are the lifeblood of our communities; we should celebrate them every day, and Volunteers’ Week is an opportunity to do that in style!”

Anyone interested in volunteering or getting volunteers involved in their projects can check out https://www.tsimoray.org.uk/volunteering  or drop-in to the tsiMORAY office at 30-32 High Street, Elgin.
