Parents are being invited to bring their children along to learn more about the latest work of a successful Moray children’s author.
A teacher for 30 years, Fochabers author Maria Kay will launch her latest book at the Gallery in Elgin Library on Saturday.
Mrs Kay has specialised in the use of music to develop literacy skills in children and her previous publication, Sound before Symbol – Developing Literacy before Music, was described as “well researched and beautifully written” when it was released by Sage Publications last year.
Now the author will launch her latest work ‘The Alphabet Book + More’ in Moray. She said: “It is a delightful, multi-sensory resource to help children learn about the alphabet and many more literacy skills.
“It is packed with engaging illustrations, information about early literacy and lots of ideas for helping children to develop the skills they need to become proficient readers.
“Music is also included to help reinforce learning and it includes guidance for parents on the teaching of reading skills, offers an aid to syllabification and shows children how to draw the letter shapes.”
The book is designed to cater for babies through to eight year olds and is described by its publishers as an “indispensable” addition to a child’s bookshelf.
Mrs Kay will attend the public launch of the book at the Elgin Library from 11am on Saturday, September 6, while the book can be purchased online from Amazon in paperback from £6.23.
