Fire and rescue crews from four Moray towns were called to a major incident at a whisky maltings plant in Burghead on Tuesday evening.
Crews from Elgin, Lossiemouth, Forres and Fochabers were called to the Diageo Maltings after a fire broke out in what was believed to be the kiln tank at the plant.
A spokesman at the scene for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said that the blaze had been quickly contained after crews arrived at 5pm and that there was no danger to workers at the plant or members of the public living nearby.
It is believed that a new kiln had only recently been installed at the plant where last year Diageo were fined for health and safety breaches after a worker had fallen from a ladder at the Maltings.
Crews remained at the scene for several hours and were joined by an ambulance as a precautionary measure. A Diageo spokesman confirmed the incident, saying: “I can confirm that emergency services were called to a fire inside a kiln at our Burghead Maltings in Moray.
“They have taken control of the incident and the fire has been contained. There have been no injuries as a result of the fire and all employees on the site are safe.”
